President – Joe GriffinJoe Griffin

“The role of the PTA President is both challenging and wonderful. It is all about enriching and fulfilling opportunities that make a difference to the school and its children. The person that gets involved in the PTA, at any level, can be assured that the one benefiting the most is their child! As both a teacher and a parent, I have the ability to see things from both perspectives.”

VP-Education – Betsy Sirk

With 3 sons in MCPS (including 2 at FMS), enhancing the educational experiences for our students is of paramount importance to me. As an Information Technology Manager for NASA, a piano teacher, silversmith, and photographer, I have a passion for arts integration and technology infusion with education. I am very excited to collaborate with fellow volunteers to identify opportunities that extend learning, in and beyond the classroom. We do this through our exciting cultural arts programming, gifted and talented and special needs supports, and parent education programs. To volunteer to help with any of our educational programs, please email me at betsy.sirk@nasa.gov.

VP-Programs - Dawn Mamon

I‘ve joined the PTA as VP of Programs because I thought it would be an awesome way to get to know Farquhar “behind the scenes,” and meet new people who also want to be involved in school activities. As the single mother of 2 wonderful children, I keep very busy with a variety of activities.  My daughter, India Wilson, just started 6th grade here and is loving it.  My son, Chance, is 3 years old and currently stays home with me.  My family has been in Olney for over 20 years and for the last 10, I’ve been known as a local “Avon Lady.”  In my spare time (HaHa), I like to read, do crossword puzzles, garden, and spend time with family and friends.

VP-Fundraising – Tracy Meile

“The VP of Fundraising coordinates all PTA membership and fundraising activities including direct appeal, Spirit Wear and Supermarket Rebate programs.  He/she also works with the PTA’s Third-party Grant Liaison and the Technology Liaison.

Treasurer – Sandy AbelSandy Abel

The Treasurer of the PTA is the steward of the PTA’s funds. The general membership of the PTA votes on how those funds should be used. At each monthly PTA meeting, the Treasurer provides a report. The FMS Treasurers Guide sets forth procedures to ensure responsible stewardship of the PTA’s funds.”

Recording Secretary – Debbie Snyder

The Secretary will record the minutes of all meetings of the PTA and the executive board; file all records; have a current copy of the bylaws; maintain a current membership list; and shall perform other delegated duties as assigned.

MCCPTA Delegate – Dinitri Dantley

“The Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA) strives to unify and strengthen the 185 local PTAs in Montgomery County that participate. The MCCPTA works to create a public opinion favorable to the interests of children, encourages programs and projects in local PTAs, and provides leadership training and support for local PTAs. Participating in both MCCPTA Delegate Assemblies and Farquhar PTA meetings allows me to serve as a crucial link between the two. As your delegate, I share information about what is happening across Montgomery County schools with the members of the Farquhar PTA, and I bring the perspective of our PTA to the discussions at the county level.”

Communications Secretary – Lynn Jenner n1595391996_4916

I’m the one-stop shop for all the news that’s fit to print at Farquhar!! Between posting the Farquhar News, publishing the monthly Farquhar Forum, updating the PTA website and the various Yahoo Group Posts that go out on a near daily basis, I try to get the news out to you on a timely basis. If you need to get the word out, just give me a holler and I’ll send it forward to the Farquhar community through one of our many news outlets. I’m not CNN, but I’m pretty close!

NAACP Parents Council Representative – Vacant

“The NAACP Parents’ Council provides a forum through which interested citizens may offer assistance, guidance and support to African American parents and students of MCPS to pursue the highest quality education possible through information sharing, partnerships, critical evaluation, youth activities, and advocacy. The representative will serve as liason between Farquhar and the NAACP Parents’ Council.”

FMS Principal – Diane D’Ambrosio Morris

FMS Vice Principal – Scott Gitchell

FMS Teacher Representative

The teachers at FMS rotate on a monthly basis and attend the PTA meetings. The role as Teacher Representative, serves as the liaison between the staff and the PTA.
