SHS Poms to hold Pom Day Camp (11/7)

The 2009-2010 award winning Sherwood High School Pom Squad will host a Pom Day Camp for all girls from grades Kindergarten through High School. The Day Camp will be held at the Sherwood High School gymnasium on Saturday, November 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a performance at 11:30 until 12:00 noon.

Registration will be at 8:30 a.m. in the gymnasium. The cost of the camp will be $25.00 for pre-registration or $30.00 for walk-in registrations at the door. Fees include poms, snacks, photo souvenir, and instruction in pompon skills, and a dance routine. At 11:30 a.m., parents and fans are invited to a recital to showcase the girls’ work, as well as a performance by the 2009-2010 Pom Squad.

To pre-register send a check for $25.00 made out to Sherwood High School and the following information; child’s name, school, age and grade, address, home and cell phone numbers, e-mail, with parent’s signature to Mrs. Jeanne D. The Sherwood Poms will have Try-outs for the 2009-2010 season the week of May 18 through May 22 from 3:30-5:30. SHS to host College Funding Night (3/12)

The rising cost of college over the years has brought college planning front and center in many families minds. More than ever, families are seeking out information on how to reduce the financial burden of college so they can more easily accomplish their other financial goals. College funding has become more complicated over the years- changing tax laws and financial aid rules make the process overly confusing. Most parents, at one point, have asked one of the following questions: Where can my student find scholarship money? Should we pay for school out of our current income? Should we borrow, and from where? How should we best spend down the savings we already have? Are there any possible tax savings for college available to us? Can I afford private college, or just in-state public ones? It is important to get these answers and more in advance!

SHS to host Fundraisers for After Prom Party

Hello Faruqhar Famailies,My name is Rhonda Molleur, and I am the Chairperson for SHS’s After Prom Party. Each year SHS PTSA hosts an After Prom Party for the junior and seniors so that they will have a safe place to gather after the prom. I have arranged a couple of fundraising opportunities for the Sherwood Community to contribute to After Prom for 2009.

Thursday, January 29th the committee will be selling refreshments to parents attending the College Readiness Program. We’re looking for donations of water, candy bars, breakfast bars, any pre packaged snacks. Everything must be store bought. Please drop it off at 6pm in front of the Ertzman or contact me to drop it off at my house at
afmolleur@aol.com.

Sunday, February 8th from 2-4pm I will be hosting a “Shop Til You Drop” event. Silpada Jewelry, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Tastefully Simple, Party Lite Candles and Pampered Chef will be displaying products and donating 25% of sales to After Prom. Some orders will be in for Valentines Day. The event will be held at 4205 Morningwood Drive, Olney, Md 20832.

Monday, February 23rd from 5-9pm Cheeburger Cheeburger will be hosting a Sherwood Night, 20% of sales go to After Prom. You must bring the attached flyer in or tell your waiter that you’re with the Sherwood After Prom Group.

After Prom will be visible in the community this year. Our donations are down considerably, we’re heading up a 20.09 After Prom Event, we need every family to donate in some way. SHS host College Readiness Program (1/29)

Attached is a flyer regarding Sherwood’s College Readiness Program on Thursday, January 29th (snow date: Feb 5th). This program will discuss the transition to high school; courses offered; and what parents should begin focusing on in regards to college preparation. There will be a general session first followed by break-out sessions specific to each grade.

Before the College Readiness program, there will be a Course Registration Fair for parents to see what courses are available at Sherwood and speak with resource teachers. Outside the Registration Fair will be a Resource Fair with over a dozen companies; Montgomery College, Edison all showcasing local services available to parents and students in regards to college prep; consulting; counseling and additional special courses offered through MCPS.

SHS Wall Calendars for Sale

As a fundraiser, the Sherwood HS Art Department is selling 2009 wall calendars. Each page of the calendar contains original art done by the students, as well as their name, graduation year and a quote that has meaning to the piece. The cost for each calendar is $12.

Sherwood Poms to Hold a Pom Day Camp

The 2008 County Champion Sherwood High School Pom Squad will be holding a day camp for students in grades K through 11. The squad will demonstrate and teach the students their award winning pom and dance skills which the campers will perform for parents and friends at the end of the camp at 11:30 am. The cost is $25 and includes:

TIME: 3:30 P.M.

PURPOSE:

1. To inform candidates and parents of the procedures for Pom Tryouts

2. To receive packet of information with necessary forms for personal information, medical physical requirements, permission forms, drug and alcohol contract etc.

3. To meet with the coaches and captains and preview some skills that will be assessed at tryouts.

4. To listen and learn some Helpful Hints on how best to prepare for auditions.

5. Auditions will be held the entire week of Monday, May 19^th through Friday, May 23^rd2008 at 3:30 p.m. in the main gym.

Sherwood High School Yard Sale (4/5)

Mark your calendar! The Sherwood Indoor Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, April 5th from 10 am to 2 pm in the SHS Cafeteria . The proceeds from selling tables to sellers/vendors will benefit the Sherwood High School After Prom event.

Tables will be provided for $25 each for families selling ‘GENTLY USED’ items and $40 for sellers/vendors with NEW merchandise.

Don’t want to particpate but would like to get rid of GENTLY USED books, CDs or DVDs that they would like to donate, we will have a table set up to sell these items. Proceeds will go to After Prom! Lisa Fury has generously offered to manage this table. Families interested in donating these ‘gently used’ items can drop them off with Lisa at her home at 10 Vandever Court in Brookeville (off Gold Mine Rd) from now through Thursday, April 3.

So start your Spring Cleaning early and sign up for a table at the Sherwood Indoor Yard Sale.
