The presentation will include problem prevention strategies, practical tips, and the importance of reporting questionable Internet communications. Ms. Lipton will also discuss the Sex Offender Registry and how the public can access it to learn about convicted sex offenders living in the community.

Ms. Lipton is responsible for the management of the Sex Offender Registry, and she also co-chairs the Sex Offender Management Team. She serves as a community educator and instructor to parents, students, community groups, civic associations, law enforcement, school personnel and other professionals on the
topics of Internet Safety and Sexual Predators. She authored several informational brochures that have been distributed throughout Montgomery County.  In addition, she represents the Montgomery County Police Department and works in close collaboration with the State’s Attorney’s Office and Montgomery County
Public Schools on the CyberSafety Project.

We are fortunate to have Kim Wells, LCSW-C and Andrea Lopes, LCSW-C of the Olney Psychiatric and Counseling Center present information and ideas on “How To Effectively Deal With Issues Affecting Your Middle Schooler.”

The presenters will be available to answer your questions on a variety of topics, including:

*Appropriate boy/girl interactions
*bullying
*friendships/fitting in
*drug/alcohol prevention
*academic difficulties
*communicating with your teen
*setting appropriate limits/boundaries
*anxiety/depression in kids
*use of internet, cell phones.

Montgomery County’s Eastern Montgomery Regional Services Center will host “Parenting for Healthy Children,” on Wednesday, February 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the center, located at 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring.

The workshop will feature two presentations that instruct parents on how to cultivate healthy nutritional and behavioral habits in their children and how to fight obesity. Rebecca Davis from Family and Consumer Services at the Maryland Cooperative Extension Service, will discuss the role of nutrition and physical activity. Marcus Taylor, who administers the Physical, Healthy and Driven program for the YMCA Youth and Family Services, will talk about body composition and addiction awareness.

No pre-registration is required. The cost for the workshop is $10 for an individual and $15 for a couple.
