Math Acceleration and Pathways

Location: Auditorium at the Carver Educational Services Center,
850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville. 

Presenters will include Karen Roberts and Gail Kaplan Wassell of MCPS.  Discussion will cover math acceleration, differentiation strategies, and pathways for grades 2-8.   Questions about the math curriculum may be emailed before the meeting to Susan Joyce Thomas at susan.thomas30@verizon.net, the MCCPTA Gifted Child Committee Chair.  This meeting had been scheduled for earlier in the year but was postponed due to a weather-related school closure.

A member vote on whether to accept/reject the proposed resolution and any modifications to it will then be taken.

All interested parents are strongly urged to attend and take part in this important discussion and vote on the future direction of MCPS GT education and accelerated and enriched instruction. The original MCCPTA proposed resolution ” Proposed Resolution on Accelerated and Enriched Instruction” is attached as file MCCPTA Reso A&E GCC draft.pdf. The suggested modifications to this proposed resolution are attached as file MCCPTA Reso A&E MODIFIED 2.27.09.doc. Please review and print both for discussion at the March 10th PTA meeting.

The consensus on this vote will be represented by our Farquhar PTA Delegates Betsy Sirk and Dinitri Dantley at the March 24th MCCPTA Delegates Assembly. Involved parents, 2. Better Advocates, and 3. Informed stakeholders for their children. In order to get this workshop customized to the needs of parents in Montgomery County, we need to know exactly what our parents need, and the the best way to make it available to them.
