Volunteers for Spring Play

PTA has offered to host the concessions for all FMS Spring Play performances this year. This allows the directors, students and parents to fully be engaged in the performances without the added stress of handling purchasing and selling.

All proceeds will benefit the drama department.

The way we can make more profit is by getting donations for the snacks. Donations can be dropped at school anytime between March 14-18. Please label your donation “Spring Play.”
Should you have any questions, text Chelsea, 240-286-1092. In the event we have leftovers, they will be used for the 8th grade dance. There are a few volunteers still needed to sell concessions and you can sign up for that task using the link below as well. Thank you for your involvement, it really makes a difference!

Back-to-School Night

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Please plan to join us on Thursday, September 10th, 2015 for Back-to-School Night. This is a valuable opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers, hear about important school information, learn how to become involved, and identify ways to communicate with us here at school. The evening’s schedule is as follows:

6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Making the Most of the Middle School Years Presentations

7:00 – 7:15 p.m. Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Meeting and Principal’s Report (Upper Gym)

7:20 – 9:00 p.m. Classroom Visits

FMS is providing wonderful opportunities for parents before the Back-to-School Night class visiting actually begins. Come early and beat the traffic rush while learning tips that will help you and your child throughout the year! We will be offering valuable information sessions from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Parents can attend two or more of these sessions:

  • Making the Most of the Middle School Years – Hear from local experts on how to help your child thrive during middle school academically, socially and emotionally during a time of great change in their lives. The presentation will feature the FMS school psychologist, the Olney Counseling Center, The Expressive Therapy Center and our own school counseling department. (Media Center)
  • College Savings Plans of Maryland –Come learn about two programs offered by the State of Maryland that have helped many families feel more confident about the future. The College Savings Plans of Maryland provide flexible and affordable plans to help Maryland families save for future college expenses and reduce dependence on student loans and other forms of debt. We will have a representative from the program here to explain the programs, answer questions and provide materials that you can take with you. (Cafeteria)
  • “Walk-in” Edline Assistance (Room 3)
  • Health Education in Middle School – Learn about the content and materials used in middle school health classes. (Room 37)

Additionally, if you choose to bring your child, he/she must remain with you for the duration of the evening as we do not have additional staff available to provide supervision. Parking will be very tight, so please consider arriving early or carpooling. The staff and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, September 10th.

A Message from you PTA President

Dear Farquhar Parents,

The PTA is looking for several leadership roles to be filled. A chair person is needed for a program or event to be successful. This person is responsible in coordinating other volunteers on the team in planning and working the event or program. A Representative or Liaison role means you will likely need to commit to being present at a county or school meeting and report back to us. Most positions require little to no previous experience, just your willingness to serve the community. Your PTA Board and FMS administrative team is here to encourage and help you along the way. Please consider volunteering for the following positions:

  • International Night (Oct 9th) Chairperson
  • FMS vs Rosa Staff Basketball game (May 6) Chairperson
  • Grocery Store Rebates Chairperson
  • Brick Fundraiser Chairperson
  • Sherwood Cluster Rep
  • Northeast Consortium Rep
  • Montgomery County Council of PTAs Delegate (MCCPTA)
  • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Rep (NAACP)
  • Restaurant Night Out Chairperson
  • Gifted & Talented Liaison
  • Various Elementary School Liaisons
  • 8th Grade Ice Cream Social (June 17) Chairperson
  • Welcoming Committee Chairperson

It’s a lot to fill, but I know that within our community there are people who will step up and help with these various positions. It is our hope that all of these positions can be filled by Back To School Night, September 10th. Please help me in spreading the word! If you don’t think you’re able to commit to one of these positions by yourself, perhaps you would consider co-chairing…that would be great! Working with a friend is always fun!

Please contact me by email, text or phone with questions, or to sign up.

Fundraising Effort for Farquhar teacher Debbie Rosen Kron

Dear Farquhar Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you. I have no words in which to express the sadness felt in my heart for Mrs Kron and her friends and family.
When tragic events and hardship hit our community we must come together in an effort to show our compassion, support and help. Please lift the family up in your prayers.

Also, please read below a message regarding how we can help Mrs Kron in a tangible way.

Debbie Rosen Kron is a math teacher at our school whom you or your children probably know and like. She is not only an incredible teacher but she is also an incredible person, wife and mother. Yesterday the unspeakable happened to her and she unexpectedly lost her husband. Just starting out with their family they hadn’t purchased life insurance so Debbie is now facing the harsh reality of having to raise their one month old baby girl, Mollie, alone.
As most of us who have been through the passing of a loved one know, the financial impact can be devastating. The Farquhar community has always been there for one another and I hope we can stand behind this family in their time of need. To give a contribution please click the link below.

Thank you,
Kristin McGervey

This year it will take place the evening of June 6th at Farquhar. Please click on the image below to sign up to contribute:
